Trip Advisor Reviews
Here’s two reviews from tripadvisor.co.uk that will show how far we’ve come…
The first – from January 2002 (no name given)…
Once the pride of the City encouraging folks to travel by the bus load in the summer from all over South Yorkshire, it is now reduced to a boggy run down mess due to lack of money.
The paddling pool is a derelict dangerous eyesore, where the out door swimming pool once was is now a levelled field of wild plants surrounding a few new toys for little children.
The car park in the winter is more like an off-road course and in summer is used by teenagers at night as a dirt race circuit.
We all hope one day it will return to it’s former glory.
Then this from June 2011 “Tracyw10, Sheffield”…
Safe, clean, nice to walk around, or even run if you fancy the exercise. there is a football net, bowling green, tennis court, cricket pitch, crazy golf, a stream, and now they have a water play area, where kids (and adults if you feel like it) of any age can have fun.
The stream has recently been re-done over the last year or so, and now it looks fantastic. I would say though is that people like to paddle in it and it isn’t particularly friendly to your feet because of all the rocks, but it doesn’t seem to stop people.
I haven’t used the cafe there, but always see people sitting out side watching their families play and they have bistro nights most summer months.
Would highly recommend you visit if you haven’t done so already!
And from August 2011 “Jetsec, Rotherham”:
I haven’t visited Millhouses Park for quite a few years but I took my 2 year old on Saturday morning and we had a great time. There is so much to keep the little ones entertained and a fantastic (but a little expensive) cafe where we sat outside and ate our breakfast. A lovely way to spend a few hours and will definitely be going again.
We need more people to review Millhouses Park at Trip Advisor! Go on… …review the park – you know you want to!!!

Green Flag Award
Sheffield enhanced its reputation as the country’s greenest city as it scooped a record number of awards for its parks and green spaces.
The city picked up four new Green Flag Awards this year at Charnock Recreation Ground, Manor Fields, Millhouses Park and Wyming Brook.
Sheffield is now the leading authority in the Yorkshire and Humberside region with 22 Green Flag Awards – the national standard for quality parks and green spaces.
Councillor Leigh Bramall, the Council’s Cabinet member for Environment and Transport said: “This is fantastic news for Sheffield. These four new national awards reinforce Sheffield’s position as one of the UK’s greenest cities. They follow on from the city’s 18 sites that have already received Green Flag status.
“The awards also showcase the city’s huge variety of top quality green spaces ranging from stunning outer city sites – in this case Wyming Brook, our beautiful city parks – Millhouses and of course our urban spaces at the heart of communities – both Manor Fields and Charnock Recreation Ground.
“All these sites are worthy winners of the Green Flag award and I would like to congratulate all those involved, including volunteers, Friends Groups, our partners Green Estate and Sheffield Wildlife Trust and of course Council staff. The success has been built on great team work and I hope that Sheffielders will now visit these sites – and Sheffield’s Great Outdoors – more than ever!”
John Brighton Secretary of the Friends of Millhouses Park added: “We are delighted to have gained this prestigious Green Flag award. Many people have been involved in making significant improvements to the park over the last few years to make it a better place for everyone. The highly successful partnership working with Sheffield City Council has been a major part of this success.”

New Family in the Park!
As if we didn’t know Millhouses Park is great for families. The family in question are the moorhens.
“Moorhens are fairly unique in that young birds that survive from an early brood will assist the parents in looking after a later brood which is what the attached photographs, taken this morning, show. A juvenile bird from earlier in the spring is sitting on what’s known as a brood nest looking after three small chicks from a later brood while the adults forage for food. I watched this for about twenty minutes this morning, a delightful start to the day.” Peter Brown

Cliffhanger Duck Race!
Another fantastic duck race at Cliffhanger 2011! Check out these amazing pictures which catch the atmosphere of the races brilliantly!
The second year Executive Member Christine Gunby has organised and run the Cliffhanger Free Duck Race. So much simple fun for some 2000 people – double the numbers of last year. After the races all the ducks have to be washed, disinfected and dried ready for next year; a process that can takes weeks after the event. It took 20 members of the friends to keep everything running and all of us were totally shattered by Sunday evening!
The friends took the postcodes of the entrants in the Duck Race – click the link below to see the results! Millhouses Park truly is a destination park!
Click HERE for some amazing pictures from Ted and Christine – thanks guys!

Is Millhouses still a Destination Park?
The Friends of Millhouses Park took the postcodes of all the entrants to the Great Annual Duck Race this year. Below are the results which make for interesting viewing!
It’s great to see that a huge number of local people came to the park, but just look at the crowds which came from further afield!
