Get your heart pumping with this great new VULCAN ROTARY HEART TRAIL through Millhouses Park! Designed by people who have themselves had cardiac surgery, this trail provides opportunity and incentive for those who need structured exercise as part of a rehabilitation programme. There are 21 marker plates alongside pathways in the park at 100m intervals – why not start today? Marker 1 is at the Main Entrance near the Park Cafe!

A project led by Rotary Club of Sheffield Vulcan in association with FofMP.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust arranges cardiac rehabilitation exercise for patients who have had either cardiac surgery or cardiac intervention (angioplasty). Exercise sessions are arranged at different sports centres, under the supervision of a cardiac nurse & physiotherapist, but patients are encouraged to continue with exercise in between the sessions, and after they have finished.
Millhouses Park’s facilities for walking/jogging on flat terrain are ideal. We have measured the park’s paths, & decided that we need 25 green oak posts, to each of which will be attached a plaque with a consecutive number, the ordnance survey reference, distance and direction to the next markers. The QR readers will access the websites of both Friends of Millhouses Park & the Rotary Club. The other symbol is for orienteerers, who have also shown an interest in the project.
Do not forget Pete Brown’s Bird Walk this Saturday, 20th November, starting at 0830 at Archer Road Entrance.
About 2 hours with Pete’s conducted tour through the park and back through Ecclesall Woods.
Always a good walk but do wrap up well!
The Park Gardens were in fantastic bloom this weekend – the weather adding to the spectacular show!
Take a look at these pictures – all this in your local park!
Thanks to Deputy Lord Mayor Sylvia Dunkley for the photographs and to all involved in the planting and maintenance of the gardens!
On Saturday 24th April, Pete Brown took a group on the bi-annual Bird Walk round Millhouses Park and Ecclesall Woods.
The start was at 8am on a cold but bright Spring morning and the accompanying photos will give you a flavour of a very pleasant two hours.
31 different birds were noted, a little down as many of the migrating birds had not yet arrived due to the cold NW winds, that had been with us for so long, that also brought the volcanic ash. Vapour trails in the sky were commented upon!
