Trip Advisor Reviews

Here’s two reviews from tripadvisor.co.uk  that will show how far we’ve come…

The first – from January 2002 (no name given)…

Once the pride of the City encouraging folks to travel by the bus load in the summer from all over South Yorkshire, it is now reduced to a boggy run down mess due to lack of money.
The paddling pool is a derelict dangerous eyesore, where the out door swimming pool once was is now a levelled field of wild plants surrounding a few new toys for little children.
The car park in the winter is more like an off-road course and in summer is used by teenagers at night as a dirt race circuit.
We all hope one day it will return to it’s former glory.

Then this from June 2011 “Tracyw10, Sheffield”…

Safe, clean, nice to walk around, or even run if you fancy the exercise. there is a football net, bowling green, tennis court, cricket pitch, crazy golf, a stream, and now they have a water play area, where kids (and adults if you feel like it) of any age can have fun.

The stream has recently been re-done over the last year or so, and now it looks fantastic. I would say though is that people like to paddle in it and it isn’t particularly friendly to your feet because of all the rocks, but it doesn’t seem to stop people.

I haven’t used the cafe there, but always see people sitting out side watching their families play and they have bistro nights most summer months.

Would highly recommend you visit if you haven’t done so already!

And from August 2011 “Jetsec, Rotherham”:

I haven’t visited Millhouses Park for quite a few years but I took my 2 year old on Saturday morning and we had a great time. There is so much to keep the little ones entertained and a fantastic (but a little expensive) cafe where we sat outside and ate our breakfast. A lovely way to spend a few hours and will definitely be going again.

We need more people to review Millhouses Park at Trip Advisor! Go on… …review the park – you know you want to!!!

Litter Pick!

There will be another litter pick on Thursday this week, 2nd June 2011, Meeting at the Café at 9 am.

A couple of pictures are attached taken earlier this month on Litter Pick 1 where 24 bags of rubbish were collected in and alongside the river.

This time we are concentrating on hedge and bush bottoms.

Our important Green Flag inspection is on Monday 6th June and we have to ensure we are up to standard – the green flag sets the level of maintenance we receive so can effect manning and resources. We do not want our park to slip back into the state it was not so long ago.

Pete Stow is organising litter pickers etc and he is running the event again so drop us a line to let him know we will not be alone on the day – it’s a big park for a few people.

Community Spaces Big Lottery Award!

We have been informed, this morning, that our bid for £50,000 for the outdoor gym, young children’s undulating roadway, life expired poplar tree replacement and new park signage has been awarded.

This is fantastic news and there has to be a big “Thank You” to Kate Stow for instigating and leading the bid plus the professional support and additional work by Amie Rowland.

Members Geoff Hibbard and Chris Smith have been closely involved with the roadway and Holly Barnes has added the professional tree input.

Together with input from many members this is truly a team project working in a successful partnership with Parks and Countryside staff.

This money will make a significant difference to our park and be enjoyed for many years to come. Gosh it feels good this week! Well done everyone.

Friends Visit to Stainsby Mill

In order to investigate exactly how a flour mill worked a few members of the Management Committee visited Stainsby Mill to find out.

This information has helped how to translate the remaining evidence in Millhouses Mill Building and will be part of our public information display in due course.
