Millhouses Park/Ecclesall Woods Spring Bird Watch

8.00 am Saturday 30th April

Meet at the steps into the park from the bridge on Archer Road. Several pairs of binoculars available to lend out for the walk. Everyone welcome as always.

Last April’s walk produced 33 species. In the last couple of weeks a pair of Kingfishers have been displaying along the Sheaf. No guarantees but it would be nice to get a sighting of the Park’s iconic bird which has proved elusive on recent spring walks.

For further information on finding birds in the Millhouses Park/Ecclesall Woods/ Tyzack’s Dam area look at the Sheffield Bird Study Group website at

www.sbsg.org

At the end of the guide there’s a “Recent Records” link which lists everything that’s been reported in the area over the previous weeks. Worth a look.

Do not forget Pete Brown’s Bird Walk this Saturday, 20th November, starting at 0830 at Archer Road Entrance.

About 2 hours with Pete’s conducted tour through the park and back through Ecclesall Woods.

Always a good walk but do wrap up well!

Bird walk, 24th April

On Saturday 24th April, Pete Brown took a group on the bi-annual Bird Walk round Millhouses Park and Ecclesall Woods.

The start was at 8am on a cold but bright Spring morning and the accompanying photos will give you a flavour of a very pleasant two hours.

31 different birds were noted, a little down as many of the migrating birds had not yet arrived due to the cold NW winds, that had been with us for so long, that also brought the volcanic ash. Vapour trails in the sky were commented upon!
