Pooches in the Park
Thornberry Animal Sanctuary will be holding an event in Millhouses Park on Sunday 30th September 2018 from 12-4pm. They will be raising some much needed funds for their kennel refurbishment. The event will consist of a Dog Walk around the perimeter of the park and a dog show consisting of two show rings with a selection of trade stalls selling Doggy related goods, and an Artisan Market featuring exhibits including local artists and craft stalls.

Bank Holiday Duck Race
This Saturday the Friends of Millhouses Park will be back with our fabulous free duck races at the fishpass in the park.
The ducks will race on the hour every hour from 11 til 4 – choose your duck early to avoid disappointment!
Should the weather scupper the event we will postpone til Sunday or Monday and keep you updated on Facebook and our website

Petition to protect the park
SCC is currently considering a plan to fence off and lease an area of the park from the public for private business use. This sets a worrying precedent that the park is seen as a commodity. The Friends group strongly opposes this: the whole park should remain free for all to use.

Basketball Courts
Some of you may have noticed the basketball courts are fenced off, the finishing touches are currently being applied to a refurbishment. The courts will be open again in a couple of weeks.
The current courts are being renovated and repainted with existing backboards and hoops renewed. There will also a new second court created and also two lower kids nets added and new benches installed.

Park spring clean
Spring has sprung and we are ready for the first litter pick/spring clean of the year. It is this Sunday, the 23rd April 10.00am-12.00pm. We will be meeting at the cafe, litter pickers and gloves supplied but bring your own if you have them.

Christmas Tree

Autumn Events.
We have a couple of events coming up this Autumn, as always, all welcome.
On Saturday 15 October, 10.00-12.00, our Autumn clean up with the Rangers. The Rangers will be supplying any necessary equipment – meet at the cafe at 10.00 to join in.
On Saturday 5th November, 8:00 start, our Autumn bird watching walk with Pete Brown.
Meet at the foot of the steps into Millhouses Park at 8am. The leisurely walk through the park and back through part of Ecclesall Woods will last about a couple of hours. Pete has a number of pairs of binoculars to lend and all are welcome to take part.

Fun in the park this Sunday!
We are holding another duck race at the fish pass this coming Sunday, 18 September, in support of Diabetes UK who are having an event in the park.
As always, the races are free, and we have prizes for first, second, third and last place each race.
The first race is at 12.30am, then 13.30, 14.30, and last race at 3.30pm. Select your ducks early to avoid disappointment!

Getting ready for summer
We are getting ready for summer at Millhouses Park!
You may already have noticed the new steps leading from the boating lake to the river path, where the treacherous mud path was. These were built over two days by five FOMP volunteers and with great help from the Parks and Countryside Ranger Service.
Maintenance work has also been undertaken on the Watersplash, which is now all ready ready for some sun.
Finally the trim trail assault course is currently getting a much need revamp with artificial grass being added so hopefully no more muddy shoes!
